Remember the Down Low is not new it's just more talked about nowadays. In fact, the black community is forced to talk about it now, because of the dramatic effects on the lives of black men and women, but mainly because of the rapid increase in new HIV cases among black women. The Down Low has been attributed to this rapid increase in the number of newly HIV positive sisters. Therefore, the media, religion leaders, community activists, concerned organizations, authors and The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have made strong commitments to outlining this dark secret called the Down Low.

The Down Low is known to and lived by brothers who secretly have sex with other men, it is claimed to be wide-spread, and therefore it must be aggressively addressed right damn now.

If black women are being infected and dying with AIDS at staggering rates, how do we continue reproduce? The Down Low is not the only contributing factor to HIV infections among black women. However, it is considered to be one of the major contributors.
